Illinois BASSET – Beverage Alcohol Sellers & Servers Education & Training
The Illinois BASSET Program is the state’s mandatory responsible alcohol service training program,
administered by the Illinois Liquor Control Commission (ILCC). All individuals who sell or serve open
containers of alcohol, check IDs, or deliver to-go cocktails must obtain BASSET certification within
120 days of hire. Certification is valid for 3 years.
Steps to Be Compliant in Illinois:

Complete an approved BASSET course within 120 days of hire:
Training may be taken online or in-person through an ILCC-licensed provider.
On-premise training is 4 hours; off-premise is 3 hours.

Receive your temporary BASSET card:
Your trainer submits your completion to the ILCC within 10 days.
A temporary card is valid for 30 days.

Obtain your official BASSET card:
Your permanent BASSET card is available within 30 days and can be viewed or printed via MyTax Illinois.

Maintain certification for 3 years:
BASSET certification expires three years from the date of issuance.
